Tartar sauce pairs beautifully with so many seafood dishes. To name names, we highly recommend pairing this sauce with our Baked Sesame-Glazed Salmon.

You can prepare your own tartar sauce in a matter of minutes, and like most things, tartar is much better freshly made than from the store. It’s creamier and has a much fuller flavour. We’ve added some probiotic power to ours up by swapping lemon juice for our Nexba Elderflower & Lemon Kombucha. This gives it a subtle zing without being overpowering. Is there anything kombucha can’t do? We think not.

If you’re looking for a lighter option, you can swap traditional mayonnaise for a thick Greek yoghurt. Nothing wrong with a tzatziki-tartar hybrid!

The good stuff you'll get:

We’ve upped the nutritional value of the humble tartar sauce by adding a splash of our gut-loving Elderflower & Lemon Kombucha. And you might be shocked to find that mayo has a few surprising health benefits…

  • Nexba Lemon & Elderflower Kombucha: Gone are the days when kombucha was limited to being sipped straight up (often accompanied by a grimace!). Nexba's probiotic-packed delicious booch feature in a stack of our cocktail recipes as well as baking and even savoury dishes! Our kombucha is brewed for 40 days (twice as long as many other kombucha brands on the market) which removes that vinegar-like taste (double bonus) and contains 500 MILLION - yep, we counted 'em - live probiotics for a happy, healthy tum.
  • Mayonnaise: Let’s be real, mayo isn’t usually thought of as a health food. In saying that, a good quality organic store-bought version contains omega 3 fats, Vitamin E (good for skin health) and Vitamin K (for strong bones). The main thing to consider when buying mayonnaise is choosing a good quality brand that uses minimal preservatives/additives. Getting in the habit of reading food labels is always a good start!
  • Gherkins: These good little green guys are low in calories and contain a decent amount of Vitamin K.
