What does it mean to be #NaturallyBrave? In celebration of the launch of Australia's first #NaturallySugarFree soft drinks, Nexba is sharing a series of 'Naturally Brave stories from the brave people who keep out beaches safe.
Our fourth story comes from Brett Beswick - Central Coast Director of Lifesaving and Avoca SLSC lifesaver
Brett Beswick's Naturally Brave Story
On Tuesday 26 January at midday, Brett and his fellow surf lifesavers from Avoca Beach SLSC treated 11 beachgoers with serious injuries, including a broken leg, a broken ankle and a broken arm, injuries that had been sustained after the group were knocked over by a freak wave on the rocks south of the clubhouse. After arriving at the scene, the patrol crew walked and carried the injured on stretchers nearly 250m over rough terrain to a nearby carpark where the injured swimmers were treated by ambulance officers. The Naturally Brave efforts of Brett and the Avoca Beach lifesavers were outstanding as they provided a high level of care to a large number of injured beachgoers, and showed great determination and bravery to carry the injured across the rock shelf back to safety.
An incredible rescue from Brett and all members of Avoca SLSC which saw them awarded the honour of Rescue of the Month. Brett and his patrol will be back this weekend to see the start of the season open and continue the Naturally Brave ethos of lifesavers in keeping beach goers safe throughout the summer!
Great effort from Brett and Avoca Beach SLSC lifesavers! #naturallybrave
